1- The Canadian Diabetes Association reports that more than 3 million Canadians have the disease, 90 per cent of them mostly adults with type 2 diabetes.
2- Type 1 diabetes usually strikes people under 30. They don't produce enough insulin.
3- Type 2 diabetes is characterized by insulin resistance. The body partially or totally can't use the hormone insulin to regulate the amount of sugar in the blood.
4- Uncontrolled diabetes can harm nerves and blood vessels, causing complications such as blindness, kidney disease, dental problems and may result in limb amputation.
5- 80% per cent of people with diabetes died from heart attacks or stroke.
